Two feeble quakes hit southwestern Turkey
Two feeble earthquakes measuring 5. 3 and 3.5 on the Richter scale jolted southwestern Turkey but caused no casualties, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Saturday.The first quake, which was centered in the Mediterranean Sea about 100 kilometers from Aydin and Mugla provinces, occurred at 23:53 p.m. local time (2053 GMT) on Friday, according to the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory and Seismology Institute.The second one measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale took place at 00:48 a.m. on Saturday (2148 GMT on Friday) at the same region.Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey which lies on active fault lines. Two devastating earthquakes in the country in 1999 killed more than 18,000 people.
