Strong quake hits Indonesia's Sulawesi island

JAKARTA-A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 hit Indonesia's Sulawesi island Monday but there were no immediate reports of any deaths or damage, an official at the national quake agency said.The epicenter of the quake lay at a depth of 33 km (21 miles) and about 96 km (60 miles) southwest of Tolitoli town in Central Sulawesi province, Anas Fauzi, an analyst at the agency in Jakarta, said.He said no tsunami warning had been issued.Earthquakes are frequent in Indonesia which lies in an area of intense seismic activity where several tectonic plates collide.
