TOKYO-The Japanese government said Friday it will offer 47.9 million
yen in emergency grant aid to China to help it purchase tents for people affected by the deadly earthquake that hit Sichuan Province earlier this month. The grant, part of a 500 million yen aid package Japan pledged shortly after the magnitude-8.0 quake hit southwestern China on May 12, was in response to a request from China for tents which it says are running short. The quake left 80,000 people dead or missing with an estimated 5 million people reportedly becoming homeless.
